“…to distinguish both good and evil.” Hebrews 5:14b
In 1947, DeBeers changed the diamond industry with the slogan, “a diamond is forever.” Truth is more powerful than a slogan. By it, the apostles turned the world upside down, and the reformers redirected the course of history. By it, God sets the sinner free and sanctifies the saint.
Pontius Pilate once infamously asked Jesus, “What is truth?” In a world that has largely given up even asking that question, they have instead resorted to “finding their own truth.” Isaiah 59:14 describes our day also by declaring that “Truth has stumbled in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter.”
Now more than ever, Christians need to be assured that truth is knowable, that it is precious, and like wisdom, that it is profitable to the soul. Truth doesn’t change! Those who know it, cherish it, and live by it will find God is true to His word, that He is “near to all who call on him, to all who call on Him in truth.” – Psalm 145:18.
